Fashion Design History – Best Illustrators of 20th century

Fashion design is generally considered to have started in the 19th century with Charles Frederick Worth – the very first designer in the world. He started Fashion house in Paris. Before that, clothing design can be made by a team of tailors and that are worn by court people. But the high fashion was descended during that period of time.


Fashion designing is the art of appliance of natural beauty to clothing, According to the social & cultural scope, Fashion design is influenced by the designers. “Fashion” not only applying for apparel, involving in every part - Accessories: Bags, Jewels, hats, etc.,


 Later Frederick followed own method named “Haute Coutre”. He was capable to state to his customers what they ought to wear. This made him success in Fashion Designing. He has studied many articles from any period magazines about clothing techniques. Outfits that are created after 1858 could be considered as Fashion Design.

The convention of designers sketching out garment outfits instead of presenting completed clothing on models to clients began as an economy.

In early 20th century, all high fashion designs are instigate in Paris. Around the start of 20th century, Fashion design magazines include Photography…..

Talented illustrators of fashion field – George Barbier, Paul Iribe, René Gruau who drew fashion sketches of most recent developments. The best French magazine was La Gazette du bon ton – published from 1912 – 1925 – by Lucein Vogel. Then nearly 1910s the clothing fabrics are more flow-able and soft.


Jeanne Paquin - famous female designer of high quality clothes organized real Fashion Show during this period.

Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo – designer of venice introduced the special pleating process and new dyeing techniques.
